Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial & Accounting Management: Oversee accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, reconciliations and month/year-end closure close processes. Ensure accurate reporting, compliance with IFRS and effective internal controls. Take full responsibility for the review and approval of all reconciliations across the accounting function, including journal entries, checklists, invoices and payment submissions. Improve month‑end close timelines through process enhancements and maintain up‑to‑date documentation of all key financial processes and controls.
 
  • Vendor & Customer Management: Maintain vendor relationships, monitor risk, resolve queries and ensure timely collections and payments. Implement basic performance monitoring (e.g., vendor & debtor ageing dashboards). Improve dispute‑resolution turnaround times. Oversee the management of vendor and customer accounts, ensuring timely follow‑up and resolution of all outstanding items.
 
  • Asset & Inventory Control: Oversee fixed asset functions, insurance and inventory processes in line with best practices. Ensure periodic asset verifications are conducted and report on any variances. Strengthen controls governing asset movement and disposal processes. Oversee and improve the monthly asset and inventory reporting to provide management with accurate and timely insights.
 
  • Fleet Management: Oversee motor vehicle fleet operations, insurance claims and compliance. Improve fleet cost tracking and reporting to enhance visibility and support effective decision‑making.
 
  • Client Service: Ensure prompt resolution of queries and deliver excellent customer service. Monitor and improve response times to ensure prompt and consistent client service.
 
  • People Management: Lead, train and mentor staff; manage performance and development. Conduct skills gap assessments and create basic development plans. Support the provision of structured coaching to strengthen the team’s technical capability.
 
  • Reporting & Compliance: Provide timely financial reports to senior management and Board, support audits and ensure adherence to tax and regulatory requirements. Coordinate audit preparation by ensuring reconciliations and supporting documents are ready, and manage auditor requests across the bank to ensure complete, accurate and timely submissions. Monitor VAT compliance submissions and escalating gaps or risks promptly.
 
  • Other Duties: Execute any reasonable and lawful instructions from management.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • BCom Accounting degree with completed articles (Chartered Accountant qualification will be an added advantage).
  • 5–7 years’ experience in financial accounting, including 5 years in management.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, IFRS and financial systems (SAP experience will be an added advantage).
  • Advanced Excel skills and excellent communication abilities.
