Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPAS)

1.      Risk and Compliance
•     Assists in implementing policies and controls for compliance with International Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards. This includes ensuring that IFRS calculations are performed, and all relevant entries are accounted for timeously.
•     Assists in implementing policies, gazettes and controls for compliance to statutory and regulatory rules. This includes compliance to Bank of Namibia requirements as well as to ensure that the relevant calculations are performed and accounted for timeously.
•     Assists with the resolution of external and internal audit findings.
•     Ensure that the monthly, quarterly and bi-annual risk reporting for finance is done.
•     Ensure that the annual review of the risk policies for finance is done.
•     Assist with the automation of calculations to increase controls regarding IFRS calculations.
 
2.      Consolidated Financial Reporting
•     Ensure timeous submission of all statutory returns and reports for the Bank.
•     Ensure timeous submission of the quarterly, semi-annual and annual consolidated supervision returns.
•     Ensure that all queries on statutory returns and reports are promptly resolved.
•     Review the relevant Income Tax, VAT and WHT calculations, reconciliations associated with the calculations, returns and payments for the Bank and relevant group companies. Ensure the timeous submission of all direct and indirect taxes.
•     Ensure the resolution of queries from the Receiver of Revenue on Income Tax, VAT, and WHT.
•     Responsible for the management and finalisation of VAT audits from the Receiver of Revenue.
•     Ensure that the accounting records for subsidiaries are maintained.
•     Review the financial statements of subsidiaries to ensure it is correct and accurate.
•     Prepare the consolidated Bank Windhoek Annual Financial Statements for publication.
•     Review the monthly management accounts for accuracy and completion that needs to be submitted to the financial manager.
•     Review and approval of monthly reconciliations.Assist with the preparation of documents for different board meetings. Assist with any ad-hoc duties as required.
 
3.      Liaise with External and Bank of Namibia auditors
•     Assists in co-ordinating and facilitating audits and information regarding external and Bank of Namibia audits and reviews.

4.      Personnel Training, Development and Facilitation
·     Ensure that formal and on-the-job training is effectively planned and conducted to ensure that sufficient expertise is available to deal with the work.
·     Ensure that the mentorship in the department is effective to enable all personnel to develop to their full potential.

5.      Evaluation of Personnel
·     Ensure that you have sufficient knowledge of personnel and their duties to do effective evaluation and also ensure that ongoing discussions take place.
·     Ensure that evaluations are done on a regular basis according to the guidelines of the system.
·     Ensure that steps are taken to develop employees for performance improvement.

Minimum requirements

 
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

·     At least 5 years working experience in the financial accounting field
·     Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
·     Knowledge of the Accounting systems and Processing activities
·     Sound knowledge of VAT, Income Tax and Withholding Tax
·     Sound knowledge of IFRS and IAS
·     Ability to work independently
·     Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
·     Must have an aptitude for detail and critical analysis
·     SAP experience will be an added advantage
·     People Management skills in coaching, mentoring, and performance management
·     Computer literacy essential (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
·     Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
·     Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency in English
 
QUALIFICATION
·        Chartered Accountant qualification
